The Type of Camera

DSLR

DSLR users benefit from the fact that they have the widest range of lenses to choose from. They not only have options from the manufacturer of the camera, but from many others who created compatible lenses so that you are able to pick and choose which models and makes you like. The two largest DSLR brands in the market are Nikon and Canon, however, they only make lenses compatible with their own brand. There are several other lens manufacturers such as Tamron, Tokina and Sigma who are dedicated in providing interchangeable lenses compatible with your camera’s mount. When shopping for a lens made by a ‘compatible’ manufacturer, always ensure that you have selected a lens for the right ‘Mount’.

MILC

The majority of MILC camera owners have been content with the lenses manufactured by their respective camera brands. Therefore, it might be that you won’t find too many options for buying lenses beyond the lens line-up of the brand of camera that you own.It is also very important to know that you CANNOT interchange lenses between an MILC and a DSLR camera. If you try using an adapter, the automatic features will not function.
