Want to Know How to Look Good in Pictures? Ask Nikon and Carson Kressley!
Everyone loves to look great in pictures, yet so many of us are uncomfortable whenever someone yells "say cheese!" and more often than not, dissatisfied with our picture. Nikon recently created a unique online how-to series called Look Good in Pictures starring style guru and television personality, Carson Kressley. At www.lookgoodinpictures.com, Carson and other Nikon experts gives real people practical advice throughout more than 30 episodes, a special tips section and by answering questions in an Ask Carson section. He addresses how to embrace photogenic qualities in a variety of everyday situations such as vacations, holidays, baby photos and weddings.
"Photographs are important as they reveal who we are, how we want to express ourselves and help us capture priceless memories," says Kressley. "I am excited to be working with Nikon to show people how to look better in photos and feel better in front of a camera."
The episodes on LookGoodinPictures.com span several topics including shopping with your camera, how to beat the bikini photo blues and taking perfect portraits of tiny tots. While all of Carson's tips are great, a select few can be applied to all photo opportunities:
Position the camera so it's just above your eye level and tilt your head down slightly to reduce the look of a double chin.
To make your arms look thinner, either place your hands on your hips or hold them slightly away from your upper body.
Practice makes perfect! Practice your posing. Tape your favorite photo of yourself to your mirror and try to mimic the pose from that picture each time you are in front of the mirror. There is a reason that celebrities use the same pose in each of their pictures. They practiced and learned the best poses for their figures and personalities!
Use your pictures! The only way to discover your best side is to look at pictures that you love and determine your favorite pose and position. Once you find your "best side," don't be afraid to use it. There is no shame in arranging yourself so your best face is forward.
A photo no-no is trying too hard and over thinking the pose in your pictures. If you just relax and be yourself, your pictures will be more natural and reflect the real you.
"Nikon's Look Good in Pictures is the first program of its kind to help people look better in their photos and be more comfortable in front of the camera," says Lisa Baxt, senior communications manager, Nikon Inc. "Nikon's simple and easy-to-use cameras have helped those behind the lens take exceptional photos with the touch of a button. With this new program, we're hoping to help those in front of the camera look good and feel great too."
In addition to the more than 30 new episodes appearing through February 2009, the site's News & Tips page offers additional insight from professional photographers on how to capture that perfect photo. Viewers can ask Carson a related question and he'll respond for all to learn. Nikon events and photo clinics are also announced on this page. For more tips, be sure to check out Nikon's new program www.LookGoodinPictures.com where you can view episodes and ask Carson questions of your own.
